What is Holistic Pelvic Care™?
Holistic Pelvic Care™ is a therapeutic internal pelvic bodywork developed by Tami Kent, a Portland based Physical Therapist, to address imbalanced pelvic floor muscles as a result of trauma, overwork, and stress. Similar to other muscles of the body, the muscles of the pelvic floor can also become fatigued, overworked, and have painful trigger points. This therapy uses gentle internal massage to bring physical, energetic, and emotional balance to restore and optimize health of the pelvic muscles and organs and decrease problematic symptoms.
Who ben efits from Holistic Pelvic Care™?
Holistic Pelvic Care can benefit any woman. Whether you are experiencing problematic symptoms or simply looking to reconnect with your body, you may benefit from one or more treatment sessions. Specific concerns that are commonly improved with Holistic Pelvic Care™ include (but are not limited to):
What can you expect from treatment?
The first session is generally the longest (1 hour) where a brief history will be taken and where we will discuss your goals for treatment. This is also the time where we will discuss any questions or concerns you may have and review female anatomy and muscles. We will then move on to some basic external work and then, if you are comfortable, we may move on to internal work. Internal work involves the therapist inserting a lubricated, gloved digit into the vagina and assessing the musculature and connective tissue. Exercise and gentle massage techniques will then be initiated for the duration of the treatment session.
Follow-up sessions are generally shorter (30-45 minutes) once the initial goals have been established.
Duration of treatment?
Generally, you can expect anywhere from 1-6 sessions depending on you and your practitioner’s treatment goals.
Will my insurance cover it?
